When Do I Need to Replace My Water Heater?

When Do I Need to Replace My Water Heater?

Water heaters are an important home appliance - requiring competent installation and maintenance. Many water heaters can operate effectively for decades. But, they WILL EVENTUALLY fail. Here are several signs that you need to consider replacing yours.

Is your water heater leaking? If it is leaking from the tank or inside the tankless unit, it's time to get a new one. There's just no getting around it.

Is your water insanely dirty/chunky/stinky? Sometimes we can remedy foul water by draining or flushing the tank - or by replacing the anode rod. But, generally this is a sign of a larger issue.

Is your water heater making loud noises when operating? These noises can be related to damage caused by sediment buildup, thermal expansion, or higher water pressures.

How old is your water heater? Check the sticker. Most tank water heaters in Show Low, Arizona have a recommended service life of seven to ten years. Tankless heaters can go for 10-15. Keep age in mind when diagnosing. The older the unit, the better off it might be to replace it - BEFORE IT FAILS!
